Adult life
Opera debut Trieste 1835 in Rossini's Matilde di Shabran. Milan debut 1842 in Donizetti's Belisario sang Donizetti's Lucia and Bianca in Mercadate's Il Guamento. Donizetti wrote Adelia (1841) for her, and she created the role of Abigaille in Verdi's Nabucco (1842).
From 1846 she taught singing in Paris. She retired from the stage in 1849 to live with Verdi, whom she married in 1859.
She died 14th November 1897 in Busseto aged 82.
