'Where's he got to?'
'Who?'
'Starmer.'
'Starmer? Never heard of him.'
'Of course you have. He used to play for Somerset.'
'Are you sure?'
'Weil, it might have been Essex. Anyway I was wondering - '
'What?'
'Where he's got to.'
'Sorry, I don't know.'
'You watch county cricket, don't you?'
'I used to.'
'Then you must have heard of Starmer.'
'I've heard of Stanner. He used to play for Yorkshire.'
'Ah, that's it, Stanner. That's the one. Where is he now?'
'I think he retired in 1969. But I've no idea where he - '
'He should have played for England. He was a fine bowler.'
'No, he was an opening batsman. Are you sure you mean Stanner?'
'Wait a minute, you were the one who mentioned Stanner, not me.'
'Was I? Sorry, must be going.'
'Wait... it might have been Harmer. He played for -'
'Kent.'
'That's right. Kent. . . Scored a lot, didn't he?'
'Yes, mainly off the field. Cheerio.'
