Dr Ron's Laughter Clinic: A Perplexing Pickle

So when it comes to pickling pepper who was the one who was pickled?

Ron Pataky's poem suggests an answer.

Some Perplexing Pickle This Particular Peter's In

Peter Piper, they say
Picked pickled peppers
But somewhere
Someone's been tricked

For there's simply no pepper
Extant in the world
That is pickled
Before it is picked

'Course it could be the rhyme
Was composed at a time
When the poet
Was just feeling tickled

Or it could be, too
If the story is true
That the poet himself
Was pickled
