Christmas Every Week: Electronic Christmas
Arnold Kellett’s poem advocates switching off the TV and concentrating on the real meaning of Christmas.
Come, ye faithful telly-gawpers
Gather round the potent screen
Addicts all of non-stop viewing
Keep the Christmas quarantine!
What if what we see is rubbish?
Drugged and mesmerised we gaze
Oh, kick the glued-to-telly habit,
Break the bleary-eyed malaise!
Switch your mind to gaze and ponder
On a certain starry night
When the little Lord of glory
Came to flood the world with light.
Electronic, man-made Christmas
So much there so false and glib
View, this once, the God-made channel
Gather round the Christmas crib!
