Poetry Pleases: Sunday Morning
John Ayling tells of bread on a plate, a glass of wine, and the divine presence.
Revelation often comes when least expected
As it came to us today
In the course of our reflections
On the meaning of the deed that we had done
Because we could not go to church
For our communion
We sat beside the table after breakfast
And there, with reverence
Common bread upon a plate
And simple glass of wine
We did as Jesus had commanded:
And lo, the Lord was there.
