Western Walkabout: The New You
In less than 500 words Richard Harris gives sound advice on how to lead a happy life.
How would you like to be a really great manager? All you have to do is manage yourself.
You will glow. You will be outstanding because a lot of people –including many of your friends – are making a terrible job of this task.
Focus on your health. You cannot be at your best unless you are well. So fix it.
Eat sensibly, get a good night’s sleep, and don’t drink yourself silly just because you’ve got a few dollars in your pocket.
Get some exercise; work out in the gym to build your core strength. Get your hair cut properly and spend a few dollars on a fragrance that suits you.
Then say to the new you, “You’ve been very good. Thank you for your efforts with me. I’m very pleased with you.”
You will be rewarded from the mirror by a hundred watt smile and you’ll beam that at all your friends and family.
Now, how to cope with your new success and popularity.
RELATIONSHIPS
Looking for love? Don’t waste your time. You won’t find it if you go looking for it.
Let things happen. If you are a man, you’ll find you’ll have no say in it. The woman will choose you and, mate, you’re gone. The women are so much better at this than men.
But what you can do is love yourself. Because if you don’t like you, how can you expect somebody else to like you.
So behave yourself. Log in some meritorious behavior. Obviously it’s really difficult to be good all the time – and dull, too – and probably not necessary to be more good than anybody else. But you can be kind. So be kind to children, pets, old people and the neighbors.
Be kind to writers, and buy their books. Even getting them out of the library will do because they’ll be getting a lending right fee courtesy of the Federal Government.
If by some lucky circumstance you do meet somebody of the opposite gender that you really like, show her respect; accept her for what she is because if you change her, she’s not the woman who drew you to her. And if she’s silly sometimes, forgive her. You’ll have a wonderful relationship and will be richly rewarded with her love.
MONEY
Everybody needs to learn how to deal with money. Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. You must take control of it. Work out your budget, calculate your fixed costs, and stay within your limits by adhering to an average daily rate of spending. What could be easier?
Now that you are healthy, happy and wealthy, get on with the rest of your life.
