Western Walkabout: Spiders

Richard Harris’s delicious poem highlights the dilemma facing lady spiders on their honeymoons.

Eric Nider
Was a spider
Lived inside a
Watering can.

When his Mother
Ate his father
He became a
Small orphan.

Love at first bite
Did come at night
And Eric’s gone-
Lots of little Erics, but

That’s small consolation
To the spider nation.
They need to stock
More protein powder

At least this way
Each spider mum
Has company on
Her honeymoon.
