Christmas Every Week: Authentic Christmas
Arnold Kellett longed for a Christmas that was far deeper than layers of coloured wrapping paper.
Will this Christmas be like all the rest?
The frantic preparing and over-indulging,
Wallets all empty and paunches all bulging,
A phenomenon difficult to digest.
Oh, let it be deeper than layers of bright wrappings,
Far more than a flurry of Christmas-card caring,
Far more than a show of convivial sharing,
With carols and crib merely part of the trappings.
Let it be, as in days before consumer greed,
A simple, heartfelt thrill of wonder
That God should have torn the heavens asunder
And dwelt in flesh to meet our need!
