Christmas Every Week: Three O’Clock
Arnold Kellett’s poem celebrates a British Christmas tradition.
It's three o'clock!
Come gather round
This unique British paradox:
Her glorious Majesty the Queen
All gift-wrapped in a Christmas box.
George the Fifth and Sixth before
Through wireless sought their folk to reach;
The Queen now pops in every home
To give her after-dinner speech.
Republicans may switch her off
Or snooze with jocularity;
But, as for us, 'God save the Queen!'
And Christmas solidarity.
