Away With Worry: A Sombre Message

Angela Black’s poem emphasises the “flaw’’ in our planet Earth.

What a concept, what a plan
To inhabit a planet, then end it with man
Nature red in tooth and claw
Every year there is a war

Our young men taught to do or die
"It's not for us to question why''
They end in court for seeking a reason
This means prison for this is treason

No one heeds a mother's cry
"No more to see him,why oh why?''
No one cares when the battle's won
"Friendly fire killed my son.''

The generations with grief and scorn
Curse the day when they were born

From iceberg to earthquake we've had a warning
Flood and hurricane, of global warming
No one knew this ice and sand
Was once a green and pleasant land

We try to progress from tooth and claw
With weapons more deadly than before
Destined to kill from shore to shore
None left to care, none to share

A planet in ruins, barren and bare
No one to care no one to share
No one seems to feel remorse
Our polluted planet has run its course

What went wrong with the concept and plan

The fault is man

The fault is man
