About Our Words: Flicks

Jacqueline Finesilver found herself nodding in agreement with an article by John Merchant.

'Fortunately, my instincts have never let me down' and '...but nothing dissuaded him' - just two quotes from your article which I think of as 'flicks'- little sentences or phrases which seem to flick out of the text and have a sort of sparking effect.

I don't know how it works but, people get to a 'flick' and they start nodding, 'Ah yes, I've had something similar happen...'

I speculate that your articles come in very useful for hosts of social gatherings.
