Christmas Every Week: Nativity Update

Arnold Kellett’s poem poses and answers the question:If Jesus Christ was born today, where would it be?

If Jesus Christ were born today,
Where would it be? Where would it be?
On the telly, for all to see?
Would we be shown the Infant Lord
In some brand-new maternity ward,
With neat, pretty nurses, and now and then,
White-coated Wise obstetrical Men?

If Jesus Christ were born today,
Where would it be? Where would it be?
Somewhere obscure, with few to see:
In some shabby mistal, remote in the Dales,
Amidst smelly cow-muck and swishing of tails,
With fell-weathered shepherds, privileged to peep
At the fair Lamb of God, serenely asleep.

If Jesus Christ were born today,
Where would it be? Where would it be?
Deep in the hearts of you and me!
If Jesus now into our lives we invite
'No room at the inn' is more than put right;
An updated welcome reserved just for him:
The cup of our Christmas filled up to the brim!
