About Our Words: Joseph Woodhead

Jenny Milne Woodhead of Islington, London, was delighted to diascover an article about her great-grandfather Joseph Woodhead, the founder and first editor of the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

This was so good to read giving pictures to ones mind. To see how people once had honesty, ambitions (not only for oneself, but for all people)and tenacity.

Joseph had no fears when it came to justice. I am the great granddaughter of Joseph Woodhead of whom i am extremely proud. My father was Herbert Milne Woodhead, the son of Frank Woodhead who was one of Joseph's sons.

My father was brought up at Longdenholme and told me many tales of his life there. I do believe I have the Woodhead tenacity, optimism and joy from simple things. He also had a wonderful wife, from whom I am sure he gained strength, a good partnership.

I am happy to have found your article. Say a big hello to Huddersfield from me.
