Western Walkabout: Mother

...One day when nearly ninety
She turned in her bed to face the wall
And then she died.
Ten thousand miles away I cried.
Atlantis had sunk beneath the waves...

Richard Harris thanks the person who gave him the light of day.

My mind was in a whirl
Mum said she’d wanted a girl
I oughta
Been a daughter
My sin was
To be a son.

Mother was my sunlight
The rock where we stayed safe
During the war.

One day when nearly ninety
She turned in her bed to face the wall
And then she died.
Ten thousand miles away I cried.
Atlantis had sunk beneath the waves.

These days on her birthday
I light a candle for her
And thank her for giving me
The light of day.
