Bonzer Words!: Short Story
Wendy Ogbourne tells a moving tale in few words.
'Mum, I'm going for my L plates. Can I have my birth certificate?'
Judy froze.
Such an ordinary question, such a reasonable request.
Slowly she turned, opened the desk, drew out a document, and held it out to her daughter.
'Anna, I . . . ' she began.
But Anna was already unfolding the paper. She glanced at it.
'But this must be wrong,' she exclaimed. 'The names . . .'
'I meant to tell you. We wanted you so much.'
A flash of comprehension passed between them.
Seconds ticked by, an eternity. Suddenl 'Oh, Mum, I love you too.' They clung together. 'Let's talk.'
