Away With Worry: The Rational Illusion

Angela Black's poem says our gods will inevitably let us down.

Need creates belief.
What we need we must believe
Or suyffer need's frustration.
And no-one likes to suffer.
So we say "Be rational
Create a belief to fulfill a need.''

And we all fashion gods
In the image of our needs
So as not to be frustrated.
For every need - a belief!
Our gods, therefore, quite rationally
Are everyone, our needs' illusion.

And they all let us down,
Then, angrily disillusioned,
We scream "We've been frustrated:
The bastardfs don't exist.''
And rationally, since disillusion
Is the rational outcome of illusion.
