Dusk To Dusk: The Echo Within

“Do you know that I have offered my soul my very life and all that I would ever be to feel the echo of your heartbeat’’ writes Canadian poet Michael B Poyntz.

It is the impossible... it is you
perhaps the cruel illusion of a just reward
to fool the fool who whispered arrivederci to you years ago
it is me... the stranger in Rome you took with your smile
you who now stands barely inches away and smiles again
how do you do that... how does anyone do what you do
steal a heartbeat twice within a lifetime
Italy the land of amore wine and laughter
where lovers become artists and love is their masterpiece
creating landscapes of passion drawn on the canvas of a sunset
kisses as sweet as fruit sorbets whose flavours are unlike no other
fingertips so hot they explored skin like molten lava
creating a fire nestled deep in your core that the heat within you seems to be endless

Dusk to dusk spent under a golden Tuscan sun
raw emotions became transparent as if wrapped in cellophane
tenderness that licked the nexus of our very existence
innocence and hunger... need and gentleness
shared love that beckons to the mistress of lust
whose lush reply is like raindrops caressing a thousand lotus leaves
Venice a city afloat hiding behind masked deception
where the only truths we have ever known
we shared in each other's arms through an endless summer
time slipped by as if the perpetual shadow of destiny
it was the coolness of the early fall
that whispered to us by the river's edge
young lovers your time to go has arrived
your time will come again

Do you know that I have offered my soul
my very life and all that I would ever be
to feel the echo of your heartbeat
hold my soul one last time
that you might truly know
I have loved only you and I do
it is the impossible...thisisme
