About Our Words: Doodlebugs
An article by Violet Apted reminded Iris Fisher of Bearsted, Kent, of grim World War Two days.
Iris writes:
Found Violet's story very interesting. Never realised before just how Kent and Sussex suffered from the Doodlebugs.
I was very nearly twelve when the Doodlebugs first arrived and one actually fell in our road. Luckily for my family, the church of St. Faith's sheltered the houses from most of the blast otherwise I might not have survived to tell the tale because a lot of people died that night.
