A Lovely Shade Of Blue: Let Kindness Rule The World
"God calls us to treat other people with the same kindness that we want them to show us,'' says Claire George.
Christianity is an action-filled faith. Simply going to Church and believing in God is not enough. Christians are called by God to make a real difference in the world.
Very often "making a difference" feels like it's going to be too much of a challenge. We are all used to seeing Christians on television who go to Africa to build wells or invite the homeless into their homes.
When we witness such wonderful examples of faith in action we end up thinking, "I can't do anything that compares to that. There's nothing I can do."
The thing is, not all callings are as dramatic as packing our bags and leaving the country. Sometimes God calls us to be the person who helps others by saying, "No, enough."
Look at your behaviour with your group of friends. Is there anything you do together that damages other people?
It could be something straightforward such as smoking near children or disturbing the neighbours with loud music. Or it could be something more subtle such as causing trouble by repeating private conversations or lying about what other folk have said.
Not filling children's lungs with smoke, not keeping the neighbours awake, not ruining reputations and not hurting people's feelings, are all things that make a real difference to the world. God calls us to treat other people with the same kindness that we want them to show us.
Whatever the problem is in your group of friends, be the person who makes a difference by saying "No, enough." If we all did that, imagine how nice the world would be.
