Bonzer Words!: Peas

Wendy Ogbourne tells a brief tale which encapsulates the trials of bringing up children.

'No, no peas', the toddler yelled, throwing a green handful onto the floor. She scowled stubbornly from her highchair. Her mother sighed.

'I hate peas,' Miss Pre-School scowled. 'Jenny doesn't have to eat peas.' Her mother sighed and took the plate away.

'It's no good trying to hide them, Aunty Joan.' The 10-year-old was defiant, insistent. 'I don't like peas, and I won't eat them.'

'Just a few, dear—they're very good for you.' But Aunty Joan failed too.

Five years later.

'I've decided to be a vegetarian, Mum. It's a moral issue.'

Mum is laughing, or is she crying?
