About Our Words: Two Rooms And A View

Peter Holman Smith from Ocean Shores, USA, found his memoires were stirred by an episode from Robert Owen's autobiography.

Peter writes:

I was at Royal Arthur in January 1957 (Course 520). I remember the "Hare and Hounds" very well. I stole a map from a phone box to find my way back.

While waiting to start the course we were lined up outside our cabins. The duty officer looked at my civvy sweater under my blues and asked me why I was out of uniform. I replied "Because it is bloody cold out here." No response from him.
