Word Acts: The Auto Mechanic’s Code

Lawrence Willson's poem ruminates upon auto complexities.

You know how it is, nowadays,
if you drive you strive to keep up your ride
that’s bound to be controlled by computer
requiring professional attention less
you find yourself in the dark woods not
moving, and not able to

You know when satanic symbols light up
the dashboard how you hire a mechanic
who knows and can decipher the codes but
code shows one thing, she fixes another
because that first thing’s under warranty
and she cannot make a living doing
what the dealer would do free

Well, that happened to me, and a prius, today
