Word Acts: The Bishop’s Straight

Lawrence Willson brings another intriguing poem to set your mind a-working.

Roman monk for twenty years
he spent a third of that as
a hermit, before being
married and ordained a priest
not now of the roman cloth

Brilliant of mind, humble in worship,
he became a fine bishop
in a tradition known for
its controversial dogma
now my friendship’s a libel

‘Twas gay rights that did me in
as my bishop friend’s concerned,
and that be just concerning
also a bit ironic:
love is, as love does

And that's iconic: being is doing.
