Word Acts: A Flaw In The Golden Rule

Lawrence Willson's poem turns a spotlight on those whose God is money.

Treating others as you want them to treat you
proves catastrophic when preferences rest on
selfish craving
like of late where Goldman Sachs' theolog,
Brian Griffiths, ties the golden rule to
self-interest:

"The injunction of Jesus to love others as
ourselves is a recognition of self-interest. . . .
We have to tolerate the inequality
as a way to achieving greater
prosperity and opportunity for all."

Clearly Mr Griffiths knows his bible
and has chosen his master: money
over Jesus
who put service over selfishness

(Being a lord hardly makes ye god-like)

Quote from Simon Clark and Caroline Binham, "Profit 'Is Not Satanic,' Barclays CEO Varley Says," Bloomberg, November 3, 2009, available also here: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aGR1F_bjSIZw.

Reportedly, Mr Griffiths shared his half-baked theology in London's St Paul's Cathedral, October 2009, while defending Goldman Sachs' fantastic bonuses. Integrally profit is not the issue, more like financial rape. One may wonder how the likes of the lord got into St Paul's, in the first place, then recalling the gold-mosaic walls . . . well, ye wonder no more forever.
