Episode 10

...At the first opportunity to get away from his mother he went to the apple house and cautiously looked inside. He had seen inside there before. Nothing much to see except slatted shelves lined with straw. As he pushed the door, some straw fell from the open hatch above him and he heard movement. Somebody, or something was up there! He didn't wait to find out what it was, but turned and ran . . . right into the arms of Old Matey...

...Molly had also said it would be his responsibility to lock the chickens in the henhouse every night to protect them from the foxes. He had no idea how he was going to catch all those fluttering birds, but perhaps he could ask Old Matey if he got a chance to speak to him...

Episode 2

Alan, aged nearly eight, has found himself transplanted from London to the unfamiliar surrounding of the countryside on the first day of World War 2, and was soon in trouble with his mother for dirtying his best clothes. Now, changed into his old 'play clothes' he was being shown around the farm by 'Old Matey', the farmer.

Episode 1

Today we begin the serialisation of a novel by Arthur Loosley which relates the adventures of a shy young boy from London who finds himself transplanted into the countryside at the beginning of World War 2. He meets an amazing old man, who becomes his mentor.
