Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On The Wall” becomes the first James Bond theme song to be number one in the UK; Official video released along with final trailer

October 5, 2015 by Paul Chan

Sam Smith has made history by writing and performing the first James Bond theme song to make it to number one in the UK.

The track, “Writing’s on the Wall”, achieved combined chart sales and streams of 70,000 copies, 13,000 ahead of of Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” according to official chart figures released last Friday.

The previous Bond film, Skyfall, won an Oscar for Best Original Song for Adele in 2013 but only reached number two in the official UK charts, matching the achievement of Duran Duran with “A View to a Kill” in 1985.

Spectre, the Bond film that Smith’s song is attached to, is officially released on October 26 and the full video was released today.

The video includes scenes from Spectre including both Bond girls – Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci) and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux).

Spectre is believed to be the longest film in the series.

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has hinted that he would be prepared to see out his tenure as the iconic spy with one more Bond film, which would be the 25th in the long running series.

The final Spectre trailer was also released, with some new scenes added and a suggestion that Lea Seydoux’s Madeleine Swann could be pivotal in Bond’s quest to defeat SPECTRE.

Adele’s Skyfall was the best Bond theme in years when released in 2012 and was a fully deserved Oscar winner.
