Poetry Pleases: Fire In The Forest

Elwyn Frankel's poem crackles with menace.

Giant trees come tumbling down
Crashing to the ground.
Scurrying fauna flee in fear;
Terror is all around.
The firemen do their very best
To quell the wall of flames,
But they know there is little hope
While the wind is in the west.
Farmers have done all they can,
Livestock mostly safe.
Fences gone and home in threat,
For the fire is in the forest.
