Poetry Pleases: How I Feel Today

After hearing news of the terrorist bombings in London yesterday, Lorraine Roxon Harrington, who lives in Australia, felt compelled to write this poem.

War is war and people die
No preference is shown
Old or young woman or child
Men dead and broken homes.

Fighting for a chosen cause
May make it seem alright
People die and people cry
Can the cause be ever right?

Bringing suffering and causing pain
Never seems to end
Wars are won and lives are lost
And then it starts again.

Who is right, who is wrong
One never gets to know
Enemies later become our friends
And we let the anger go.

Older and much wiser now
I accept the way it will always be
Religious beliefs will divide us all
Making enemies we never see.
