Here's Alison: A Tree Is...

Trees were made for boys to enjoy, as Alison Ross's poem reveals.

A tree is everything, said the boy
A ship in a stormy sea,
Sailing the waves in a 100 knot wind,
And the Captain's always me!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
Come, climb the rigging with me.
The tide is right, no land in sight,
We’ll sail the seven seas!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
A nuclear submarine,
Cruising the oceans of the world,
And never a-once is it seen!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
A steamer or riverboat,
It can even be a hovercraft,
The fastest one afloat!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
In a gale, it’s a bucking horse,
The number one rule, is don’t lose your cool,
Or you’ll hit the ground with force!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
A lion, snake, or bear,
It can even be a long lost cave,
Or a puma’s lair!

A tree is everything, said the boy,
A spaceship, bound for the moon,
It can even be an orchestra,
Playing towering tunes,

A tree is everything, said the boy,
You’ve only to give it a name…
And you never let on to anyone
That it’s really only a game!
