U3A Writing: Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...

Trish Colton's poem will win a sympathetic nod from every person in Britain who has to travel by bus.

I'm fed up with standing in bus queues,
It really does do in my head.
So I've leaned up against the bus stop
And written this poem instead

I'm fed up with standing in bus queues
For buses that never arrive.
I've grown old and shall soon meet my maker
While waiting for X55.

I'm fed up with standing in bus queues;
I've taken root, just like a tree.
And when a bus finally gets here -
I bet it will be one of three
