The Man in the Moon, sky wise, and bright,
Watched me when I walked tonight.
He's made of cheese, you say?
I like cheese. But really he's
A dream from childhood's day?
I like dreams. Lose them
And you lose the flaming dragons from the sunset sky,
And silent roaring creatures in the darkling gnarly bark
Of trees, which you creep quietly by.

He's just a lump of rock, you say, and dead,
And men have reached him, rocket-sped—
Let's stick to facts, you say?
I like facts, but airy tracts
Of evening take me far away.
Fantasy, eschew it?
Then lose the child already hid beneath your noisy day,
And see no silent sparkling patterns on the waters where you walk,
No moon, to watch you from the sky.
