She carried the dream - a minute pollen grain
on the back of her young and fragile wings
then she fluttered toward a beginning carved in the sun
her loins bursting with a fresh desire
to plant freedom's song
for she knew the sacrifice required before you can roll

now, her song flowers
amid balancing rocks and flame-lilies
waiting to explode and fertilize mother earth
with a love and courage that will make the moon to smile

yet, it all began in the shadow of a butterfly's wings
