Peter Wintersgill details the life of opera singer Geraint Evans, the son of a Welsh coalminer.

Adolescence
Studied at G.S.M. and in Hamburg & Geneva.
Adult life
Covent Garden debut 1948, becoming one of the leading baritones. His best roles included Falstaff, Figaro, Papageno, Wozzeck, Beckmesser and Leporello.
He sang at Glyndebourne 1946-61. Debuts San Francisco 1959, Milan 1960, Vienna 1961 and Salzburg 1962.
Was made a Companion of the British Empire in 1959 and was knighted in 1969.
He retired in 1984.
He died in Aberystwyth on September 19, 1992.
