Open Features: Willi Domgraf

Peter Wintersgill provides an outline of Willi Domgraf, at one time the principal baritone at Berlin State Opera.

19th February, 1897, in Aachen.

Daughter Brigitte was mezzo soprano.

Adult life
Studied in Aachen, Berlin and Milan. Opera debut Aachen as Count in Mozart's Figaro 1922.

Principal baritone at Berlin State Opera 1930-45, sang in premiere of Peer Gynt. Sang Figaro on opening night at Glyndebourne 1934.

Director of Nuremburg Opera 1946-49.

On retirement became Director of Opera Studies at Nuremburg Conservatoire.

He died 13th February, 1978, in Nuremburg aged 81.
