U3A Writing: Mind Music

Vera Sanderson’s reeling, romping, rolling song tell of the urge to spin words.

Words, words, words, words
Trapped within my head,
Words of anger, words of love,
Words that I have read,
Cacophony of sound, repeating old refrain.
Rhyming, reeling, romping, rolling
Round within my brain,
Shrilling, singing, shrieking, shouting,
“Start to write again.

Mother, Mother, set us free.
You can give us birth.
You know you can create with us
A paradox of mirth,
Life and death and love and sin
And everything on earth.

Hasten now before the muse
Fails within your brain.
We are but your willing tools.
Use us once again.”
