Sometimes when hurt has hurt too much,
And even love is more than drained,
That soft glow in the darkened church
Can soothe the spirit, heal the pained.

For life goes on – ‘spite hurt and loss;
Therefore, deal and cope we must
That soft glow in the brightening church
Revives the lost with hope and trust.

Live to the fullest – die in peace;
Give to the poorest – share in grief
That rich glow in the hallowed church
Is what we need to give relief.

The glow goes on from shore to shore,
Wherever people think alike,
And when our earthly journey’s o’er
We’ll live in that Eternal Light.
