Poetry Pleases: What Would You Do If You Could Control The New Year?

William Ruleman brings this simple yet profound new year poem - a translation of lines by Joachim Ringelnatz (1883-1934)

Out of excitement I would likely
Spend the first night in frantic daydreams
And all the next day pettily
Devise quite dumb egotistic schemes.

Then Id just laugh out loud, I hope;
And Lord, Id beg and whine
For you to make the new year divine
In accord with Your greater scope.
