U3A Writing: My Patch

Joan Miles has great hopes for her pooch Patch.

My Patch is a pooch He's black and white
A kelpie by breed With not much height.
He's the runt of a litter
A bundle of fluff
Off chasing the chooks
He can't get enough
His mother's name's Spot
She's an excellent worker
His father, who knows?
P'raps the dog of a shearer?
His patch on one eye
Gives a comical look
His breeding shows up
As he eyes a chook.
We've great hopes for Patch
As a sheepdog supreme
If the children don't spoil him
With love and esteem.
