North American Dreaming: Golden Locket

In William Burkholder's poem a locket holds a beckoning invitation.

A golden locket
And therein lies my lady love
Penned up in that tiny clasp and chain
My dreams
Staring at the be-speckled bauble
I see deep green eyes
Staring back beckoning me
To join her there
At her side in the other compartment
And when closed
We will stare into each other's eyes forever
Never worn
Tucked away in dresser drawer
