Poetry Pleases: The Dragon In The Sky by Caroline Glyn

Caroline Glyn's poem tells of the awakening of time.

The sun was a red-hot dragon, gaping flame
That billowed and circled and roared in agony
And writhed around cold, wet Earth. Steam rose,
Smothering the light; and as Earth flinched
From the angry breath of the serpent, Time awoke.
Time is a cold-blooded monster; he came and stared.
He froze the hissing steam that wrapped Earth round,
Quenched the panting heat; till the Dragon in the Sky
Was belching blood-red ice.
