Christmas Every Week: Magnificat

Arnold Kellett's poem focuses on the key responsibility of being a Christian.

Christmas in Suburbia!
Come Christians all, let us indulge
In plump and succulent delights!
We'll feast until we start to bulge!

Christmas in a famine-camp!
No feasting here. With failing breath
They plead for piteous bowls of food
Amidst the encroaching stench of death.

Christmas in old Bethlehem!
Behold the cowshed King of Kings,
Of whom his mother Mary sang '
He'll fill the hungry with good things.'

Christmas in the Christian heart
Oh, Man for Others, make me see
The anguish of all hungry folk,
And feed them, Lord - through such as me.
