Peter Wintersgill introduces us to the Hungarian singer Friedrich Schorr.

2nd. September 1888 in Nagyvarad, Hungary.

Studied in Vienna.

Adult life
Opera debut Graz 1912 as Wotan in Wagners Die Walkure. He sang with Klemperer at Cologne 1918 - 23 & Berlin 1923-30. He sang in operas by Strauss & Busoni, but was chiefly known as the outstanding Wagnerian bass of his day, with his voice, of great majesty & beauty. He became a U.S. citizen. He died 14th August 1953 in Farmington CT aged 64.
