Adult life
Opera debut Milan 1953, sang later there in Bellini & Puccini. Sang at Edinburgh Festival 1957 as Amina in La Somnambula, Covent Garden debut 1962 as Butterfly, also at New York Met in 1965. From 1973 she sang heavier roles, such as Bellini's Norma & Donizetti's Anne Boleyn. She is esp. successful in Puccini & Verdi.

She has also been a producer.
