U3A Writing: Words

This poem by Meryl Nickels begs for words to rebuild a fractured relationship.

I have squandered a heartache of words,
words that I cannot recall,
words that bellow with rage,
word-building a wall of silence between us.
I want words to call you back,
words of apology and contrition,
words to heal the breach.
words that beg forgiveness.
words that caress and cajole
to express my love,
my need to reach out
And embrace you,
To bridge the gulf
Between us.
Most of all I want from you
words that deny your fault,
the violation of faith and trust
of which you stand accused.
Your silence condemns you.
words I beg of you,
words to rebuild
our fractured world.
