U3A Writing: Blue Petal

Merle Parkin conveys in words the bluest of blues.

Where Spring's first zephyrs sift the living desert,
A precious fragment lies,
Anachronism in the weakling sunshine,
Fallen, new-washed, from cobalt summer skies!

Distilled from light from out the bluest sapphire,
Bluer than grottoes in some tropic sea -
of blood be red-on-red, then this rare morsel
Is bluer still than blue-on-blue could be.

Brushed from its twig by some small, soft-furred creature,
Its dying moments seem its finest hour,
Framed by the russet hue of sand in sunshine:
Blue petal from a Leschenaultia lower.
