Studied in Hamburg and Vienna.

Adult life
Opera debut Hamburg 1849 as Lucrezia Borgia. Frankfurt debut 1850, Vienna 1856. London debut 1858, settled there. Sang in New York 1874 - 76. She was one of the greatest opera and oratorio singers of her day, being famous as Norma, Donna Anna and Leonore (Fidelio). She sang Marguerite in the London premiere of Gounod's Faust 1863. She sang with vocal power and authority.

She died 3rd October 1877 in London aged 46.
