Donkin's World: Did I Mention My Book?

...The best tip there is the advice to take an interest in other people and that, I realise, is where I have been going wrong...

Richard Donkin emerges from the seclusion enforced by writing a book.

I'd better be honest now. Six months working in seclusion has left me feeling somewhat reclusive. I have never been a great networker even though I take an interest in the networking thing. But I'm not a misanthrope and I do take an interest in other people, one reason I floated by Emma Jones's website. Emma is a great networker and here she gives five tips for people who might want to be as good as she is, people who might be classed as notworkers. http://www.enterprisenation.com/detail/5_networking_tips_for_the_notworker/3491/1.aspx
The best tip there is the advice to take an interest in other people and that, I realise, is where I have been going wrong. I come out of hiding and suddenly it's all "enough about you, now let me tell you about me." But no-one wants to know about me and, if they do, they don't want a one-way relationship.

The PRs long ago stopped taking an interest, apart from one or two sailing PRs who know that I still write for the FT. That's not a problem. PR is cupboard love. It's business. It's about selling.

Now I have something to sell and haven't got a clue how best to go about it. Did I mention I had written a book? I have decided to devote the rest of these blog postings, or most of them, to telling the story of how it comes to be published. Now there's confidence for you.

Should I reveal anything about the book at this stage? Well it's set in the future and it's based on Chapter 12 of this book. That's how it starts. You haven't read chapter 12? Well if you really want to know..... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Future-Work-Richard-Donkin/dp/0230576389/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255678366&sr=8-1
