Adult life
Opera debut Vienna 1924, Frankfurt debut 1927. Sang at Salzburg Festival 1930-34 She was Richard Strauss's favourite soprano in the 1930's, she and her husband, conductor Clemens Krauss, being close friends of his. She created the roles of Arabella (1933),Maria in Friedenstag and Countess in Capriccio (1942).

She sang in 506 performances of 12 Strauss roles.

She died 22nd October 1985 in Ehrwald aged 91.
