North American Dreaming: Dreaming

William Burkholder’s poem tells of Slumber’s kingdom.

Crystal grains of sandman's caress
carry me to slumber's kingdom
candlelit and dreaming

I walk through wooded paths
the trees look to me
for a kind sower's hand,

I touch each leaf and branch
thanking them for their beauty.

Spiral stairs carry me to canopy blue sky,
to fly and commune
with violin wings
and muse's adoring sounds.

Filtering embers flame,
their halo,warming my soul.
