North American Dreaming: As Long Point Looks On

Water, sand and eagle bring back bright memories for William Burkholder.

Serene waters lapping a lonely shore.
The cool tender touch upon my naked toes.
The empty boat launches,
bathing amongst beach and deep.
Long Point's beckon calls,
its tree line shining, Canadian horizon.

Golden eagle hovering,
surveying shallow and shale.
Wing tips twitching, catching quiet thermals.
Diving and rising with Blue Pike fry...

Witnessing, water, sand and eagle
So many years ago.
The beach is still quiet,
more so now, since the eagles have gone,
the Blue Pike too...
The boat launches,
a bit more rusted,
new owners now.
As Long Point looks on.
